We’re trying to do something cool together
If you’re reading this, it’s likely because you’ve been asked to be a part of a shoot. We are doing our best to build a cohesive team that can come together to create some incredible things and make us a happy living at the same time. As you consider working with us, please read through our policies and expectations. In place of a formal contract, we ask that you submit a selfie to us per the guidelines below.
You can use almost anything you create with us for your own portfolio.
While our clients have full ownership— and liabilities thereto— of the projects we create and the assets we gather to produce them, boom retains portfolio rights to all footage. We embargo portfolio footage until the client has posted the project. We extend these rights to our squad with exceptions made for courtesy, security, or privacy reasons.
Exception Examples:
Footage of children/minors gathered on behalf of our clients.
Proprietary technologies captured during training videos.
Unflattering footage that represents a client poorly, specifically footage that shows accidental lapses of safety protocols.
Client footage may NOT be sold as Stock Footage by the squad.
Do Not Text and Drive
While driving to, from, or during any boom production, with the exception of answering phone calls, do not use any mobile devices. No texting, email, social media, or any other screen usage while driving.
Violation of this policy will result in forfeiture of all compensation and dismissal from the project.
We’ll use phone calls for any urgent communication and will never expect anyone to respond to texts, emails, or other messages quickly.
Don’t Break Any Laws
All members of our squad agree to follow all local laws and ordinances, specifically including any laws relating to photography or video acquisition and drone regulations. Individual assumes all liability and costs associated with any fines or punishments associated with their activities. (We’re not bailing you out.)
Please Don’t Steal Our Business
We have no official non-compete policy. We’re building a squad based on cooperation and teamwork. We ask that you not work directly with a client that you meet on a boom shoot. However, non-comparible projects or projects through other sources are fine. If we’re filming a commercial and you meet someone on set who wants real estate photos, go for it. If another agency wants you to help shoot a commercial for that same client, go for it. We just ask that you don’t solicit that client to shoot the next commercial with you instead of us. If someone inquires who we are on a set, please identify yourself as a part of boom and give boom’s contact information, but you’re also free to give you own contact information as well. Be transparent. Meet people. Make stuff.
Additionally, if you have a conflict with a client from another agency, please let us know so we can avoid making anyone mad while we’re making stuff.
Boom’s Working Environment
Boom strives to make our sets welcoming and inclusive to all and to create a comfortable environment for everyone present. We ask that everyone on set with us behave respectfully and professionally.
If any individuals on our squad use language or display behavior that is disrespectful on set, after one warning, that individual will be immediately dismissed from the set and forfeits all compensation.
Our clients agree to the same terms.
Examples include:
Racist language or comments
Sexist language or comments
Rude comments about someone’s appearance
Discriminatory or bigoted language.
Comments that could make someone on set uncomfortable.
If you have any questions about this policy before sending your agreement selfie and scheduling a project, please don’t hesitate to ask. Our goal is to make our projects comfortable, inviting, encouraging, and enjoyable for everyone involved. We would love to never enforce this policy, and hopefully having this policy in place will be enough to avoid more situations like the ones that prompted this policy in the first place.
Covid-19 Guidelines and Liability
During the Covid-19 pandemic, we’re taking precautions to create a safer filming environment. However, we cannot guarantee anyone’s safety or health. If you’re sick or experiencing any symptoms, do not come to set. Additionally, by coming to set, you agree to the risks associated with exposure to people on a set and agree to NOT hold boom nor the client liable if you are infected with Covid-19 or any other illness.
By scheduling a shoot with us, or accessing assets for a project, individuals agree to the above terms including our Working Environment expectations. If you have any questions about these, please let us know prior to scheduling a shoot with us.
To save time and headaches, please take a photo of yourself holding up a sign saying "boom squad" with the date and your signature and Email it to Shaun. Like this one:
That's a pretty telling indication of a willful understanding of the terms and conditions, right?
